This weekend I did the Crystal Lake 2 mile Open Water Swim. Race report is here. It’s a common event in our area and ends up being a mid-season reunion for many of us triathletes in the area as a training day.
I went there planning for it to be a training day. I ended up racing. I ended up getting 3rd in the Clydesdale division – WHAT? So how’d that happen?
Last post, I was talking about “putting in the time” It got me to thinking, however, that a big part of success is simply showing up.
If you show up and do the training… you get better.
If you show up and race… you will get better.
Eventually, you will no longer be that person who’s just starting… you’ll be one of the veterans. You’ll race smarter, you’ll train smarter, and you will continue to get better.
I was reminded of that this weekend. I showed up for the training over the years, I showed up on race day, I raced smart and I managed to land a 3rd.
It takes time, patience, and persistence… but if I can do it… so can you. Have you showed up?
