After what seems like FOREVER… it’s time for my “Real” race season to begin.
Last year I made the intentional shift to STOP racing in July. I am just so bad in the heat I figured why punish myself any more than I already do. Perhaps it’s being a wuss, perhaps I’m getting smarter, who knows. August is a wildcard month and it looks like this weekend I’ll have great weather.
My last “real” race was really Rev3 Knoxville in MAY. Yes I’ve done a few races since but nothing that focused my training in any intentional way – just training days and fun experiences. I will be racing the HalfRev Aquabike at the Dells (1.2 mile swim and 56 mile bike). However, this is a training day too. The reality is, pure and simple, the course is utterly unsuited to my build. I’m huge right now and it’s hilly and that does not bode well for me to score any real points to try to qualify for the Age Group Series. I will be using this as a VERY hard training ride to help prepare my body for Rev3 Maine in 2 weeks. My swim is ok, but I’m only 2 swims into my new wetsuit and not fully adapted to it.
Mentally, that pulls a lot of pressure of me to perform. My cycling is in pretty solid shape but my weight is not. So instead I plan to have one heck of a good time! I cannot weight to see my Rev3 Teammates and Staff and help put on a great race for all to enjoy.
This will be the first trip bringing the family. I’m excited to introduce my family to my Rev3 Family, I can’t wait. The fact that I have several local Chicago Peeps coming just adds to the fun. The kids are dying to get to the Noah’s Ark water park and have been studying the map to see how they can maximize their water time.
So… let’s get the party started!
