DISCLOSURE: Powerbar is a sponsor of Team Rev3. However, I am not compensated for this review except that they’re sending me samples to try out and/or share. I am also a member of Powerbar Team Elite and I am given “points” for reviews/speaking/etc and those points can be turned in for product to use and/or share. As a result I plan to share more than 50% of all Powerbucks I receive.
I have been using Powerbar products since 2004, so I was really excited to hear they were a sponsor.
One of the cool things about being on the team is I can go to the Powerbar “store” and order anything I want (within a $ limit). So I ordered one of just about everything I haven’t tried to date.
I’ve been trying to eat more “natural”. I’m not alone. The Performance Energy Blends were designed for those of us who consume, literally, hundreds of gels per year. When I was out on the course 15 hours I consumed easily 30 gels. OMG I wanted someone to shoot me. Any alternative would have been great. The Performance Energy Blends were an answer to people just like me…. sick of gels, need quality energy during endurance activities, and trying to be natural.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
If you’re a high-endurance athlete looking for different nutrition options to fuel your endurance performance, try PowerBar® Performance Energy Blends. They‘re a fruit-based energy food formulated with PowerBar’s C2Max, a 2:1 glucose to fructose blend found to deliver 20-50% more energy to muscles than glucose alone and improve endurance performance by 8% (see our nutrition page for the science). They’re also a good source of vitamin C.
So here’s the SHORT version of WHY you would use them?
- Helps exercise Performance and Stamina (like a gel)
- Good Source of Vitamin C
- More like Real Food
YEAH, BUT WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Well, they taste just like the flavors say. Banana Blueberry and Apple Mango Strawberry both tasted like you took those fruits and puree’d them and stuck them in a pouch.
I tried some during a hard trainer ride Friday and it sat well. I look forward to the heat of summer to try them again because for me, that’s the real test. However, I suspect they will be just fine and a good alternative to a bajillion gels all summer long…
Has anyone else used them yet? Comment below on your thoughts!
