So, with this list of benefits…. why the heck doesn’t everyone do strength training? Seems a little strange.
Do we need to BUY something? Nope.
Do we need any special equipment? Nope. I just told you you don’t need to buy anything….
Do we need to pop a pill? Nope. Really, I mean come on, I’m STILL not going to sell you anything people! Jesh
Humans are inherently LAZY. Yeah, I just called you lazy. It’s embedded deep into our genetics. The more EFFICIENT you are with expending energy, the greater your chances of survival. Because food is hard to get (the next famine might be tomorrow) 0and you never know when you’ll get your next meal. Oh wait. Times have changed…. we have food FREAKIN’ EVERYWHERE. So there is the problem. Our environment has changed but our instinctual need to gather food and conserve energy has not.
Ok, so what’s my point? My point is you need to do strength training. If you’re 10 or 100, you still need it. WHAT you need varies a lot. But it’s really not that complicated. Here it is… Ready?
YOU MOVE YOUR BODY.
Yeah, that’s it.
I’m not a trainer. I’m not a doctor. But if you look around, it seems pretty obvious HOW you need to move your body. It’s entirely too simple.
You start by moving your body the way you want to move your body. Just less.
So if you want to do a pull up here’s an idea (each step is over a period of days or weeks or even months):
- Make sure you can lift your arms up in the pull up motion. Many times.
- Then move up to putting some weight in your hands and doing it. Many times.
- Then maybe do an assisted pull up. Many times.
- Then a pull up.
- Then 10.
- Then 100.
- Then find something else to do!! You’re already awesome. Move on!
This is the stuff Personal Trainers get paid to do. Walk you through a SANE way to progress from step 1 to step 7. And make it fun. But you don’t NEED a trainer if you are willing to break it down.
I THOUGHT YOU SAID I DIDN’T NEED TO BUY ANYTHING?!!
You don’t. When I said “put some weight in your hand” that can be anything. Bottle of water. Can of soup. A cat. Whatever. (note: cats are wiggly sometimes, so use with caution!). Even though there are many things you “could” buy you don’t have to. You don’t need a health club membership.
